Mixing Update

The 16 songs and 6 instrumentals in the running for Grey Light of the Season have all been mixed, and now we're just making final adjustments and re-recording a handful of little things that needed to be addressed. Settling on a tracklisting soon will be difficult, but if it can be done, the album will be mastered on August 24 with a digital release to follow sometime around the first day of fall.

Ebert Reviews SBSE

Roger Ebert has written a glowing review of Something Better Somewhere Else, a film directed by Chicago's Ron Lazzeretti that I contributed 5 songs to: http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=%2F20100714%2FREVIEWS%2F100719995. If you live in Chicago, you can see it at the Gene Siskel Film Center.

New Album Tracked

Grey Light of the Season is all tracked and ready for mixing. 16 proper songs and 6 instrumentals are in contention for the final tracklisting, and there are another 6 songs and 4 instrumentals set aside for EPs. The album could either be very brief or a two-volume set. Dreamy, spooky stuff, with the arrangements being voice, fingerpicked acoustic guitar, string quartet, sparse piano and electric slide guitar, and also bells, organ, and field recordings on a handful of tracks. A first day of fall release is the plan, and hopefully mixing will be straightforward enough to allow for it.

Europe / New Album

I'll be living in Lyon, France from mid-May to early-August. If anyone can put me in touch with any talent buyers / booking agents there or elsewhere in Europe, I'd be grateful. I'm really hoping to play a few shows while abroad. The new album and EPs should be all tracked and ready for mixing by the time I leave. I'm recording piano and string quartet in Kansas City tomorrow, then after that only harmonies a little field recording remain.
